and now for some amiga news 10:07 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2000
the amiga we all love and/or remember is making headlines, yet again. with claims to another innovative techology, this time in a platform development system. compelling interview, but is it as good as it sounds?
anti-anti mozilla article 02:50 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000
recently in the news, the mozilla project has been slammed for not having succeeded yet. this article counters most of the popular arguments, as the mozillar project is NOT A FAILURE...perhaps a bit late, but not failed by any means.
bastard operator from hell 05:52 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000
in a search engine accident, i found a site that collects the bastard operator from hell series of stories. these stories originated early in the dawn of system admins, and propagated the electronic networks bringing joy to all who were, or who knew, one of these bastard operators.
multitasking on your 6502 01:11 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000
a cool project that has C64s (and other 6502 based computers) multitasking and other funky things.
thinking anti-gui 09:16 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000
here are two interesting articles that think about user interfaces in an anti sort of way...for the purpose of testing our current assumptions. the first article, the anti-mac interface (1996) starts a thread of thinking about interfaces in a reverse light. a follow-up article, towards the anti-mac looks at where things are now compared to then. found at slashdot.
caffeine rules 04:29 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000
caffeine is cool, caffeine is excellent, caffeine keeps me awake at work...errr...perhaps i've had too much? this site is a vault of caffeine related information. excellent.
revival of the anti-mac papers 02:58 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000
an update to the most excellent anti-mac ui paper...and another slashdot find. if you are interested in user interfaces and/or the future these are good reads.
pooh compromised 12:49 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000
well, through the great slashdot i have muddied my great resect for the disney icon pooh bear. some terribly warped souls have executed a photo shoot of pure genius, a work of art if you will. they call it: "The Kama Sutra of Pooh".
interview with qt hacker 08:23 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000
warwick allison, qt hacker elite, speaks his mind to beopen. some good thoughts here, some history, and a few brain farts around open-source software. (another slashdot find)
discussion on functional languages 11:28 a.m. Sunday, July 16, 2000
another great slashdot discussion, and without most of the usual political-social cheese. the article discusses why functional languages have not gained main-stream popularity...and has some great links to language resources.
need to know zine 04:35 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2000
cooler than a blog, it's a classic zine...in a classic font. trés geek.
cool java demos 01:27 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2000
the world of demos brings back memories from the 80s and early 90s...days of tight code, cool ideas, great art, etc. i miss following that scene, as it motivated me to learn and do. mmmm, memory lane...
a cool c++ portability guide 09:29 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000
ok, i am a total a geek...and i know it. i actually get excited when i find an article like this!?! the subject matter is cool, but it is even rarer to find well-written/sensible stuff on the web --even geek stuff.
nerdperfect.com 02:49 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2000
"attitude with intelligence" according to techsightings.com, a stylin' site, cool content, and bitchin' bent. think slashdot without the corporate sponsers (and more style).
did monday suck? 09:46 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2000
frustration rears its ugly head at least every monday; the day when almost anything sucks, even linux. this is a place to go when even the best stuff makes you wanna smash your head against the wall.
bizarre diary 11:48 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2000
embracing all things strange, i bring to you one of the strangest blogs i've ever encountered (this is a good thing). the stories at robotfranks are of the oddest sorts...and will probably make you smile at least once. oh, don't forget to read the picture-stories of robotfrank and friends. most excellent.
wild blog 09:54 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000
i usually don't blog blogs, but this one reminded me why i like pixel editing...because you can make things look really cool. now i miss pixel editing again (it has been a while). perhaps warpedvisions will see some pixels in weeks to come...
learning the standards 09:35 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000
i tend to bump into good things quite a while after they happen...like www.webstandards.org, that monitors browser makers for standard adherence. you may also find a list apart and wired's webmonkey interesting web-design information sites.
the hobbes internet timeline 08:56 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000
a very interesting read for both young and old...err, veterans and newbies. i remember when there were only a handful of http (web) sites, and only slightly more gopher sites (i bet you don't remember gopher?!?). my ftp site collection at the time was only a dozen or so, which represented all of the major public sites!
the wonderful world of png 08:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000

png, or portable network graphics, is the next standard in lossless image formats. it is both a complete specification, and free. none of the goofy after-it-becomes-popular licensing (we all hate gif don't we?). in addition, a free reference implementation is available.

does your browser support png? and, if your browser sucks, here some other browsers that do support png.

linux development getting too political? 09:52 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2000

a funny/interesting slashdot thread that discusses the current state of linux development. here's a quote to get you started:

"It's obvious that the kernel needs better documentation and fewer penis-size contests, but it also needs better 'roadmaps' and plans ."

a bunch of weird and wonderful things 09:42 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000
nerds, in their brain swelling, anti-social bliss, tend to spend barrels of time doing weird things. and, things that are weird to most, are beautiful in the eyes of a nerd. speaking of beauty, the tabloid is a wonderful thing...even better if it is a randomly generated tabloid. this is much more efficient than paying people to write that shite. vending machines are also cool, especially when they are accessable via the net. who would of thunk it? who doesn't like cows or live cams? even better, someone put them both together here. file this one under bovine fetish. which brings me to burritos, and the home thereof...or better yet, the great and wonderful dilberito. the food engineered for the engineer. beauty is bliss, isn't it?

while on the topic of weird, try out some weird science. a large number of interesting links here. "weird dude..."

another interesting index of the weird and wacky from an interesting uk portal. weird is good.
mac os and unix 09:05 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000
a paper by the lead developer of darwin discusses integrating mac with bsd unix. another slashdot find...and a good read.
nifty GL article 04:34 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000

a scientific look at the 8-ball 09:06 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000
now we can all know what makes up the beloved magic 8-ball. a quote from the study:

"...the authors enquired whether the Oracle was enjoying the disassembly. 'Outlook not so good,' was the pensive reply."

the rules of shotgun 09:02 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000
i knew there must be rules for this game of my youth somewhere...and here they are. now there can be no argument concerning who gets to sit in my front seat.
a gnome pda gui 08:47 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000
i've always thought pdas were cool in theory, but never quite über cool. now, there are a number of gnu/linux and related pda projects...including this one that brings the simple beauty of the gnome ui to the world of the pda. some very über-nistic screenshots.
robot battle thingy 10:10 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2000
write your own bot and drop it in the arena...i had been thinking of developing something like this, but don't have to now.
